Traditional ‘Christmas Cheer’ plaque

Christmas Cheer mixed media plaque

This year I’m going for a traditional/vintage theme, with somewhat of a contemporary twist, to decorate my home. To start with, I made a hanging plaque to kick off my Christmas crafting!

I chose chipboard as my base for the plaque as didn’t want it to be too weighty. I then covered it with a gorgeous backing paper (of a wreath), designed by ‘Alexander Renke’.

Using inks and embossing powder, I built up the background with various textures and stencils. Then I embellished with some natural ribbon and string.

For the main large embellishments and the sentiment, I used the following dies;

  • Foliage – Sara Signature Collection Winter Wonderland ‘Seasonal Sprigs’
  • Fir cones – Sheena Douglass Perfect Partners Festive Fancies ‘Christmas Foliage’
  • Sentiment – Lisa Horton Stylish Script Collection ‘Christmas Wishes’ (Creative Expressions)

Once I cut out everything, I layered it all up using hot glue for speedy placement and drying. At this point I wasn’t sure what was missing; obviously some sparkle! So to finish off, I used ‘Crafter’s Companion’ clear sparkle pen to accent the embellishments and the fir cones on the backing paper. As the pen dries, you can see more sparkle appearing and it glistens wonderfully!

There you have it. A lovely hanging plaque which may bring you some Christmas cheer!
